Notes
Kootenai Health drug screen reagent tests for compounds in the OPIATE class and not those in the OPIOID class. Heroin can be either an opiate or an opioid depending on what process was used to make it.
The main opiate medication that are picked up by our drug screen include:
- Heroin
- Codeine
- Diethyl morphine
- Ethyl Morphine
- 6-Acetylmorphine
- Diacetyl Morphine
- Morphine-3-glucorondide (must be present in high doses)
Kootenai Health Opiate screen does not detect:
- Hydrocodone
- Thebaine
- Hydromorphone
- Meperidine
- n-Norcodeine
If any questions arise about the Opiate screen, encourge the physician to order the confirmatory test offered by Mayo for the specific Opiate/Opioid in question.
Specimen Rejection
Any urine contaminated with fecal material or meconium.
