If result is greater than or equal to 2.0 mmol/L, a second Lactic Acid Level will automatically by ordered to be collected 2 hours after the inital result is completed.

Collection Instructions

Avoid the use of stasis (tourniquet) or having the patient pump their fist while drawing blood specimen. Store and transport on ice.

Consider severe sepsis if Lactic Acid is >2.0
