Important Note

Tubes used for transfusion testing must be labeled per Blood Bank protocol. (Patients full name, Date of Birth, Phlebotomists initials, Date and time of sample collection).

Collection Instructions

EDTA Whole Blood for Blood Bank (Pink or Lavender top Tube)

If Mothers specimen is availiabe draw 0.5mL in a microtainer. Antibody ID and crossmatch will be performed on mother's blood.

If mother has been discharged or is not not available draw a 1.5 to 2.0 mL EDTA sample. If needed a heel stick can be done by putting 0.5mL in each of 3-4 microtainers. Avoid hemolysis.

If mother has a HOLD or TS drawn within 3 days of delivery do not redraw mother.

If no specimen has been drawn on mother and she is still a KH patient, Draw and order TS. Phlebotomist will sign in the 2nd signature space on the baby's BB requisition.
