Important Note

Specimens must be labeled according to KH Blood bank policy.  Optimal time of draw is 1-2 hours after delivery. 

In the case of miscarriage, FMH screen is not necessary if gestation is 20 weeks or less.
If Gestation is >20 weeks, FMH screen is only done if baby's blood type is known. If blood type is unavailable, a Quantitative (Kleihauer-Betke test) method must be performed.

Specimen Type

EDTA whole blood tubes. Double identifcation is not needed.
