Test Code LAB6928 TEG BASIC WITH LYSIS
Specimen Requirements
Blue top tube (buffered 3.2% liquid sodium citrate) filled to the indicator with whole blood
Venipuncture: Use a 21 gauge needle or larger. Drawing a discard tube with no additive or discard syringe of 3-5 mL prior to collecting blood is strongly recommended. Suitable discard tubes include no additive tubes or a second blue top marked "discard." After collection, gently invert the tube 5 times to mix.
Line Draw: When drawing from a line, be sure to use plastic syringes that are not heparinized. Using two syringes, discard 3x's the dead space (typically 10 mL). Using a safe transfer device (or a standard needle no smaller than 21 gauge), allow the blood collection tube to fill completely by vacuum.
After collection, gently invert the tube 5 times to mix.
